In his speech Mr Trump said he would put the doctrine of “peace through strength” at the centre of a foreign policy that eschewed what he portrayed as Mrs Clinton’s adventurism.

He did not set out details on how he would seek to deploy those assets.

In addition to conventional military spending, Mr Trump said he would also provide more funds to fortify the nation’s cyber defences. That’s probably the only thing we’ve learned from Hillary Clinton.”
